How Diplina works, including the parts that are your job.

Most of this app is ordinary. Three things are not, and they are the three that people write in about: a missed day does not reset your streak, nothing you create ever reaches a server, and because of the second one, keeping a backup is your responsibility, not ours. Everything below is written from the shipping app, not from a plan.

If you only read one answer

Streaks and the grace day

I missed a day. Did I lose my streak?

Almost certainly not. Diplina forgives one missed day in any seven. The forgiven day does not count towards the streak — it dents it rather than extending it — but the streak continues. A second miss within seven days of the first one ends it.

The app says so at the time: the habit shows a "grace day used" chip for the rest of that week, so you know the cushion is spent before you need it again.

Why it works this way: a streak that resets to zero after one bad day stops being a record of what you did and becomes a reason to avoid opening the app. Forty days of work should not be erased by one evening.

Does today count as a miss before the day is over?

No. An unticked today never breaks a streak. The day is only judged once it has passed.

My weekly habit doesn't seem to get a grace day.

That is correct and deliberate. A habit set to "three times a week" already has slack built into the target — the whole point is that you choose which days. Adding a grace day on top would quietly turn three into two.

I forgot to tick something off yesterday. Can I still record it?

Yes. Open the habit and tap the day in its calendar. Backfilling is free and unlimited, and it recalculates the streak properly.

Your data, backups and moving phones

Do I need an account?

No, and you cannot make one. There is no sign-in, no server and no sync, so there is nothing to sign in to. This is the point of the app rather than a missing feature.

Will my habits come back if I reinstall the app or get a new phone?

No — not unless you exported a backup first. This is the one answer worth knowing before you need it.

Diplina deliberately excludes its data from your phone's own backup: on Android the app sets allowBackup="false", and on iOS the data file is marked as excluded from iCloud and device backups. That means your habits are never copied to Google's or Apple's servers — which is exactly what the privacy promise requires — and it also means nobody else is holding a copy for you.

So: before you wipe a phone, uninstall, or move to a new device, open Settings → Export backup and keep the JSON file somewhere you control. Importing it on the new phone restores everything, including history and streaks.

How do I move to a new phone, step by step?

Importing replaces everything currently in the app, so import onto a fresh install rather than onto habits you want to keep. The app asks you to confirm first.

Does importing a backup cost anything, or need Pro?

No. Export and import are both free, in both directions, forever. Holding your own data hostage behind a purchase would be indefensible, so we don't.

Can I get my data out in a format a spreadsheet understands?

Yes — CSV export, which is a Pro feature. The free JSON backup contains everything too; CSV exists for people who want to chart it themselves without parsing JSON.

I'm coming from another habit app. Can I bring my history?

Yes. Export a CSV from your old app and open Settings → Import from another app (CSV). Diplina reads one row per check-off (a habit and a date) — the shape most apps and spreadsheets use, Streaks and Habitify included — and Loop Habit Tracker's Checkmarks.csv, with one column per habit. Habits with the same name are matched; the rest are created. Nothing in Diplina is replaced, and the import is free.

Does the app have internet access?

Diplina's own Android manifest requests no internet permission at all. The permission list shown on Google Play is longer because the store's billing library contributes it. Two things talk to the store, and nothing else talks to anything: the purchase itself, when you buy or restore Pro, and — on Android — Play's update check, which asks the Play Store app on your phone whether a newer version of Diplina exists. On iPhone the store side is Apple's StoreKit. Your habits are never part of either. The privacy policy spells this out in full.

Can I lock the app?

Yes, and it's free. Settings → App lock uses your phone's own biometrics or passcode. There is no separate PIN to forget, because Diplina never stores one. On Android the home-screen widget respects the lock too: with it on, the widget shows a title and a count, never the contents.

Free, Pro and paying

Is Pro a subscription?

No. It is a single one-time purchase, and it never renews. There is no trial that quietly starts charging, no monthly tier, and no plan to add one.

What do I get without paying?

A genuinely usable tracker, not a demo: 6 habits and 5 notes, every schedule type, multi-count habits, one reminder per habit with a custom tone, streaks with the grace day, unlimited backfilling, the Today, Calendar and Goals tabs, the month calendar, milestones, archiving, the app lock, the home-screen widget (Android and iPhone), the Midnight and Glow themes, and the full JSON backup in both directions, including automatic backups. The seasonal themes are free for everyone in their season, too: Christmas from 1 to 25 December, New Year from 26 December to 15 January. No ads and no tracking — those are not a paid removal, they simply don't exist.

What does Pro add?

I bought Pro and it isn't showing — or I reinstalled and lost it.

Pro restores itself from the store account you bought it with — the app checks every time it connects. On iPhone you can also tap Restore purchase on the Pro screen to ask the App Store again. Make sure the phone is signed in to the same Apple Account or Google account, then open the app and give it a moment. If it still doesn't appear, write to us — see the bottom of this page.

I use Android and iPhone. Do I pay twice?

Yes, and we'd rather be straight about it than bury it. Apple and Google each sell their own version and neither can see the other's purchases, so a purchase on one store does not unlock the other. The alternative would be an account system that tracks you across devices, which is the one thing this app exists not to do.

Reminders

My reminders aren't arriving.

Reminders come late, or not at all, on my Samsung, Xiaomi or OnePlus.

These phones save battery by putting apps to sleep — including the part of Diplina that delivers reminders. Android's own reminder system is reliable; the manufacturer's extra battery saver is what stops it. Exempting Diplina fixes it, and it takes a minute. In Diplina, Settings → Reminders → Battery settings opens the right page for most phones. By brand:

Menu names shift between versions. For other brands, the independent site dontkillmyapp.com keeps current instructions. Diplina asks for nothing more than this: it does not need to run in the background, only to be allowed to wake up when a reminder is due.

On iPhone, reminders are silent when my phone is on Silent or in a Focus.

That is deliberate. Diplina's reminders are ordinary notifications, not alarms, so they respect Silent mode and Focus like every other well-behaved app. A habit tracker that could override your Do Not Disturb would be a habit tracker you'd uninstall. If something genuinely must wake you, use a real alarm for it.

Can I set more than one reminder for the same habit?

One reminder per habit is free; several per habit is part of Pro. A custom tone, or silence, is free either way.

Can I tick a habit off without opening the app?

Yes — the reminder has a "Done ✓" action, and on Android the home-screen widget ticks directly too.

Everything else

A habit isn't relevant any more. Do I have to delete it?

No, and you shouldn't. Archiving keeps the habit and its whole history but takes it off Today, and it's free. Deleting is permanent. If a habit simply has an end — a course, a course of treatment — you can also give it an end date and it will retire itself on that day. All three choices sit at the bottom of the habit's own page.

Is there a home-screen widget?

Yes. On iPhone, today's ring with your due habits, in a small or medium size — tap it to open the app. On Android there are two — today's habits and your current checklist — and you can tick habits straight from the widget. With the app lock on, the widgets show a count, never your habits.

What languages does Diplina speak?

Thirteen: English, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese (Brazil), Dutch, Turkish, Arabic, Hindi, Indonesian, Japanese and Simplified Chinese. It follows your phone's language unless you choose another for Diplina alone — on Android under Settings → Language; on iPhone that link opens the system's own per-app language setting.

What's the difference between a habit and a goal?

A habit is something you do on a schedule. A goal is a container that holds several habits and an optional date to reach it by — "run a 10k by June" with the runs underneath. You can create habits from a goal, or file habits you already have into one.

Can I use Diplina for one-off tasks, not just repeating habits?

Partly. A habit can be marked reminder-only, which gives you a tick with no streak and no score attached — right for "pay the rent" or "call the dentist". A proper to-do list is a separate idea and we're still deciding whether it belongs here at all.

Didn't find it?

Write to hi@diplina.app — it reaches a person, not a ticket queue. Settings → About has "Send feedback" and "Request a feature", which open a draft in your own mail app — nothing is sent until you press send. If it's about a bug, the app version from the same screen and the phone model will save us a round trip.
